NatWest win Investors in People award at ‘Business Oscars’
NatWest (North Region) have won the Investors in People Outstanding Workplace of the Year award at this year’s National Business Awards.  The awards ceremony took place on 13 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, where Sir Trevor McDonald announced the winners of what have been dubbed the ‘Business Oscars’ in front of an audience of business professionals.

The Outstanding Workplace of the Year award honours an organisation that has achieved outstanding success or substantial performance improvement through the design and application of an outstanding workplace development strategy.

This year’s finalists showed the significant rewards that organisations gain from continually developing their people and providing a working environment that brings the best out of them.  The judges looked at evidence of clear strategies for the working environment, the people at all levels, their engagement with the aims of the organisation and their continuous learning and development.

Becky Curtis, Head of Marketing and Communications for Investors in People and one of the judges for this award, said:

“What I found particularly impressive were the increasing links between the finalists’ people strategies and bottom-line performance.  This is something which Investors in People is very keen to see developed and it is this sort of approach that puts development of people firmly on the boardroom agenda.”

Becky went on to say that enlightened employers seek to challenge, engage and motivate their employees by managing their development, aiding individual progression and linking progress to organisational goals. Taking the time to get this right is a vital investment, and organisations will testify as to how their company has seen performance improve as a result.  Investors in People supports organisations in this by providing a framework of best practice.  It delivers business improvement through people by matching what people can do and are motivated to do, with what the organisation needs them to do. The Profile tool builds on the breadth and depth of the Investors in People Standard enabling organisations to measure themselves against world class best practice.

The National Business Awards recognise excellence in business achievement, innovation and success.  Any company within the UK, whether public or private, regardless of size or industry, is eligible for these high profile awards, which Investors in People has been sponsoring since their inception.

NatWest’s North Region, the biggest in the RBS group, successfully brings together business and people strategies.   Corporate and social responsibility are part of the business ethos.  Managers have been developing a franchise mentality among staff, while emphasising the community dimension, combined with rewards and recognition for employees going the extra mile.

Congratulations to NatWest and all the finalists for the Investors in People Outstanding Workplace of the Year award.
